Richest Cities in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is one of the richest countries in the world and that affluence and wealth show when you walk through the streets of its charming cities. Throughout its history, and certainly, in the last few centuries, the Netherlands has been an important commercial and financial center, much of that know-how has carried on to today. If you want to know what the wealthiest cities are, in terms of GDP, keep on reading:

Maastricht

It may come as a surprise to many that Maastricht comes ahead of cities like the Hague and Utrecht, but the capital of the Limburg region is strategically located close to two borders and forms a prominent Euroregion with the nearby cities, like Aachen and Liege. This, in combination with the University and a good amount of tourism help, pushes Maastricht up in the rankings. The wealth of the city is clear from a walk around the town. The architecture here is also unique and different from the other entries on this list.

Rotterdam

Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands and one of the most important logistical and maritime centers in Europe. The port of Rotterdam is the largest one outside of Asia and is where many of Europe’s imports come from. The city is also the home to many large corporations and one of the best business schools in the world. Rotterdam has a special vibe to it, as it was heavily bombed in WW2 and much of the old architecture is lost. However, now the city has a new, modern and vibrant look that sets it apart from most other places in the Netherlands.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of the popular and visited cities in the world, and for a good reason. While many people know it as a weed and prostitutes place, the Dutch capital has much more to offer. The city is an important financial center, has amazing culture and architecture, and manages to attract ex-pats from all around the world. The flow of capital into Amsterdam has to lead to a lot of gentrification, increase in rent and prices, but many still flock to this beautiful city.
